Week 2 – Day 14

Friday, June 3rd, 2005

This morning while talking on the phone with Auntie Sheila, Dad let out a big laugh. Sullivan joined in with his own first laugh. Subsequent attempts to trigger the laugh reflex were unsuccessful, though Mommy laughed a lot at Daddy’s fake laughs.

In addition to Sullivan’s third bath at home, this time with Aunt Kate attending, we broke out the Baby Bjorn for a short neighborhood walk.

Later on Meg and Shane, who are expecting within the next two weeks, brought dinner around. We never knew we could talk so much about baby bowel movements and the strange discoveries we have made as new parents. We hope our non-expectant friends can tolerate our new fascinations.

Week 2 – Day 13

Thursday, June 2nd, 2005

On Thursday we had a visit from seven-month-old Noah, who stayed to play for a little while. We can’t imagine that Sullivan could ever get so big, while Noah’s mom, Sheri, can’t remember Noah ever being so small.

This afternoon Auntie Kate arrived from New Orleans. We celebrated by inviting Sullivan’s grandparents to our first “dinner party”. Everything took twice as long to prepare as it did before we became parents, so dinner was fashionably late (after 8). Grandpa had been up early hunting turkeys, so he deserves extra credit for hanging in with us so long.

Today Mom wanted to try running some errands. She was ready to go at 10:30 a.m.–but Sullivan wasn’t! He thought closer to noon would be a better time.
Once they got out, he was a perfect angel for three hours.

Dad is still trying to keep up with the New Yorker. Sullivan seems to be cooperating so far.
